The morning was a bright and sunny day; the freshness of the wide open mountain air was as fresh as ever. The mountain was the destination for so many skiers and snowboarders out looking for a thrilling ride down the snow packed mountain and the magnificent views that it has to offer. The day seemed endless, people having a relaxing and enjoyable day off from work. There was nothing that could ruin this day for those thrill seekers.

The day was ending, J.V Henry and his greatest of all friends, Martin Stevens, were finishing up a black diamond. The dark clouds rolling over the mountains, screaming and yelling at all the vacationers. “GEEETTT OOUUUTTTTT!” yelled the thunder. The ski patrol was warning everyone to get inside, because of the upcoming storm. “Dude, we should go up” said martin. “No No No… the storm…it’s…coming!” said J.V. The two friends were having a disagreement of whether or not to go up the mountain during the storm. “The storm won’t last forever…how often are we able to ski in a storm…imagine how thrilling it will be” said martin. “I’m goin’ inside, having a drink, and then hitting the hot tub…and maybe meeting some girls…you gonna join me or what” said J.V. “Life is to short to pass this up…I’m goin’, see ya later” said martin. The two went their separate ways for the night. As Martin was walking away, J.V had whispered under his breath “you’re stupid to go alone” and then skied off in the opposite direction to the lodge. As J.V entered the lodges bar, a ski patroller had entered announcing “IT’S A BLIZZARD…board the windows, secure all items, and DON’T go outside.” “Is there anyone still on the mountain?” asked J.V, the ski patroller had a simple answer of “No” J.V had looked all around the lodge, asking people, if anyone has seen his friend. The blizzard was only getting worse and it started to look as if everyone will be stuck there for days, not knowing if everyone else in all the other lodges were fine. After a while, J.V had come to the conclusion that his friend might be still on the mountain, without anyone else knowing about it. At once, J.V went up to the ski patrol guarding the exit and said “I think there’s someone still out there…may I go see?” the ski patroller had replied with a forceful “NO…the area has been cleared…aannnddd…No ONE…is going outside in this weather.” This plan of escape failed miserably, at once the crowd was getting restless, the free food and beverages didn’t help, and everyone just wanted to get out. The crowd had roared for hours on end “LET US OUT!”, “THIS IS ILLEGAL…to hold us in like this” the crowd did not care of the dangers, and didn’t realize at the time, just how bad this storm had progressed.

An hour later… the storm letting up, the ski patrol started to release people out into the street, and everyone was cheering, running into the huge piles of fresh powdery snow. J.V had been worried for his friend, he still hasn’t been able to go and search, while everyone was enjoying the playful snow; as if they were kids on a playground, J.V had decided to start up the mountain, murmuring to himself “martin…here I come” the ski patrol had warned everyone to not go up the mountain, due to loose snow drift, and possible avalanches that may occur after the fact, but J.V ignored this fact and had responded to the warning sign with a few words “F*** this…and the ski patrol, I have to save my friend”. The man was determined and angry, at finding his friend and pissing off the ski patrol. As J.V went up the mountain, he had little to know of what’s going to happen to him, a scared little man who has never really had a real relationship, a man who lives every moment like there is no tomorrow, a man with little to no adventure in his life, and it was all going to end on that very day.
Half hour later…after J.V had gone up the mountain, the second and final avalanche, came crashing down to the ski lodges and to the feet of Martin Stevens, “WATCH OUT!” Martin yelled to all the lodge members as he started to run away and into the lodge. Few minutes later, Martin was talking with one of the ski patroller’s “Whoa…that was a close one….I hope no one got hurt from that” and as Martin was finishing his conversation, he turned back to ask the ski patroller “Say…you haven’t seen my friend around…have you?” and the ski patroller had once again answered with “No..I haven’t…but I’m sure he’s fine…everyone got out of the way.”
The fact was, this was the same ski patroller who had talked to J.V, and right before J.V started up the mountain, that very mountain which killed him. The life that lived with no adventure, died with the greatest adventure. The adventure of sneaking around the ski patrol and hiking up the avalanche infested mountain. The life had good intentions, but had died with one bad idea.
The End
