Why is it that we must be tolerant over everything that we may or may not believe in. Are we, as a nation, overly tolerant and tolerate too much in society? Is the nation a cheap prostitute that will accept anyone with any background or life choice? The nation urges everyone to be more tolerant of other cultures, races, religions, lifestyles, but when it comes to the values, the culture, and the religion of Christianity – everyone degrades its beliefs and tries to demolish its values. For a nation that claims to be tolerant over others beliefs, they are surely intolerant to the beliefs of Christians. I’m not saying people should not be tolerant, but the opposite – think of everyone’s perspective and treat other cultures like you would treat your own. Don’t punish those who have strong values – if business owners refuse service to customers because of the lifestyle choice of the customers, then don’t punish the business owners for having their own values that may go against the majority of society.
Using and protecting the first amendment is necessary to express freely our ideas and beliefs.
What if the nation was not tolerant? If people spoke up against wrongdoing, wouldn’t it only strengthen society – then again tolerance stops people from being violent against one another. Tolerance is not only about changing our perspective for the perspective of others’, but rather preventing violence from erupting and keeping people civil. Tolerance can be a good thing as long as it does not interfere with a person’s right to express and have their values and beliefs. Tolerance should not be an excuse for violating our first amendment rights; our constitutional right are more important than tolerance or political correctness.
